Scythe of vitur is the ToB unique with a charge bill. The abyssal tentacle is a whip you keep feeding kraken tentacles — and it does not list on the Wiki GE feed as its own item. The live prices below are the uncharged scythe (the GE version) vs an abyssal whip. Add a kraken tentacle if you are costing a tentacle from scratch.
Stat differences
| Spec | Scythe of vitur (uncharged) | Abyssal whip / tentacle |
|---|---|---|
| Style | Slash, multi-hit | Slash |
| Typical use | ToB, large NPCs, some raids | General melee, slayer, bargains |
| Upkeep | Blood runes / charges | Kraken tentacles if you make a tentacle |
| Spec weapon | No (main-hand DPS) | No |
| Price tier | Raid unique | Budget–mid |
The scythe wants targets big enough to eat all hits. On a single-tile crab it is an expensive whip. A tentacle is accurate, degrades, and is easy to replace. If you cannot explain why the extra scythe hits matter on this NPC, you are paying for a flex.
Which one should you buy
Buy the scythe when you have ToB (or similar) hours in the diary and the charge cost does not scare you. It is a content weapon.
Buy a whip / tentacle for everything else. Whip-line melee still clears slayer and a lot of bosses. Put the leftover gold into armour, a spec wep, or supplies.
If you already own a tentacle, do not sell it “to fund the scythe” unless the live prints make that trade obviously cheap. Check the uncharged scythe and the whip on GeHound first.
